Evaluations

Our Process

Evaluations at The Grounded Group are conducted for individuals ages 5 and older to assess a variety of presenting concerns such as:  â€‹â€‹â€‹

  • Attention weaknesses

  • Executive function weaknesses (e.g., difficulties with organization, planning, working memory, self-control)

  • Anxiety/mood

  • Learning differences (e.g., reading, math, writing)

  • Behavioral difficulties

  • Social challenges

  • Communication problems

Psychoeducational Evaluation

Psychoeducational Evaluations consist of multiple appointments: an intake, school observation (if applicable), 2-3 testing sessions, and a feedback meeting.

Intake Appointment

60 minutes

  • Parent(s) only, if the evaluation is for a minor

  • Discuss presenting concerns, developmental/medical history, academic history, previous evaluations, and social/emotional functioning.

  • Previous reports or academic records may be requested for review.

  • The clinician(s) will use this information to tailor a comprehensive assessment battery to address specific challenges.

  • Parent and teacher rating scales will be provided to gain information regarding the individual’s functioning across settings.

Testing Appointments

Approximately 6 hours total

  • Sessions are broken up into increments and often occur on separate days. Each session length is determined by age/presenting concern and will be discussed in the intake meeting. The exact duration of testing can vary depending on many factors, such as the individual’s work pace, stamina, or the severity of impairment in functioning.

  • Includes standardized assessments of intelligence and academic achievement, rating scales to assess emotional, attentional, social, and behavioral functioning, and a clinical interview (when appropriate). Additional measures may be administered.

*Note: our clinicians do not administer projective testing. If an individual is determined to require additional testing beyond the scope of the evaluation, specific referrals will be provided.

School Observation

30-45 minutes

  • Fourth grade and under

  • With parental consent, a clinical team member will travel to the child’s school to observe the child in his/her school setting.

  • The clinician may also speak with the child’s teacher to obtain his/her impressions of the child’s functioning.

Feedback Meeting

90 minutes

  • Parent(s) only, if the evaluation is for a minor

  • Review the results of the evaluation:

  • Observations made during the evaluation

  • Teacher feedback

  • Assessment scores

  • Learning patterns

  • Strengths/differences

  • Potential diagnoses

  • Discuss referrals and recommendations for intervention and support for the home, school, and treatment settings.

Following the evaluation process, you will receive a comprehensive report that summarizes the information presented during the meeting and details the individual’s unique pattern of strengths and weaknesses, diagnostic impressions, and specific recommendations.
